Our Journey & Expertise
SHM Canada was founded by Vidya Limaye in October 2010, combining years of international experience in the construction industry with expertise acquired in Canada in structural health monitoring and structural engineering. With this background, Vidya believed in offering quality structural engineering solutions that were innovative yet efficient and cost-effective.
- Inspired by a passion for structural engineering and structural health monitoring
- Began as a one-person consultancy, with a focus on practical, reliable solutions
Starting with Vidya as the solo practitioner in 2010, the company has grown by hiring skilled professionals with diverse expertise. Today, we are a team of 15 dedicated professionals.
- Initially, utilized the expertise of freelance former colleagues as needed
- Added structural and SHM specialists over the years
- Culture of mentorship, ongoing learning through formal and informal training, and professional designation attainment
- A friendly and meaningful learning environment for students on co-op and work terms
- Supporting diversity
After initially incorporating in Nova Scotia in 2010, to meet growing demand, we expanded operations to cover multiple provinces and specialized environments by subsequently registering in Ontario in 2022, and then in New Brunswick in 2025, to better serve clients nationwide.
- Licences obtained in all Atlantic Provinces and in Ontario
- Strategic collaborations with industry leaders and research institutions
After successfully completing smaller projects, we started offering services on larger bridge and marine projects. More than 160 projects have been delivered over the last 15 years, and the number continues to grow.
The first Structure Health Monitoring deployment was on the Canso Canal Sector Gates Rehabilitation project in 2011. Since then, 16 additional monitoring projects of varying nature and complexities have been implemented. The range of projects includes monitoring:
- Building roofs, such as the Scotia Bank Saddle Dome in Calgary,
- Bridges, such as MacKay Bridge in NS, Madawaska River Bridge in NB, Linwood Overpass in PE, and Alexandra Bridge in ON,
- Complex structures, such as radar towers in the Canadian Arctic,
- Bridge testing for the development of new structural systems.
We offer tailored solutions across a wide spectrum of structural engineering and monitoring needs.
- Structural health monitoring systems (design, installation, operation, analysis, and reporting)
- Data analytics for long-term asset management
- Design of bridges and marine structures
- Design reviews and performance optimization
- Detailed structural inspections and evaluations
We integrate cutting-edge technology into every project to deliver precise, actionable insights.
